What age is it for?
Poumi is built for children aged 3 to 10. At 3 it’s mostly stories and songs; by 10 it’s a real conversation. The vocabulary follows.
Does Poumi record conversations?
Poumi keeps a memory of what matters so it can hold a real conversation. That memory is readable and erasable from the parent app, and it is hosted in Europe.
Does Poumi listen all the time?
No. A switch on its back has three positions: off, story, chat. In story mode, the microphone is physically disconnected, not just turned off in software. The light that shows it is listening is wired to that same power line: it cannot lie. And no magic word wakes it up: a button starts a session. “Hey Poumi” is there to cut it off while it is talking, once a session is already running.
Does it need wifi?
To talk with Poumi, yes: it needs a connection to understand a question and answer it. Stories and lessons already downloaded work without one.
How does Poumi get my child practising English?
By getting them to speak. It asks a simple question, waits for the answer, puts it right when it comes out wrong, and never tires of it. At the end we show you two things: how many words your child said, and how many exchanges they carried through to the end. No grade, no level, and nothing promised about results. The sessions where your child speaks are part of the subscription; the lessons they listen to stay free.
How much does Poumi cost?

Why a subscription?
Stories and lessons are already recorded: playing them costs next to nothing, so they stay unlimited. Conversation is another matter, and so are the English sessions where your child speaks: they travel to a server in Europe that listens, understands and answers, every single time. That has a real cost every month. It is what the subscription pays for, along with the module of the month and the parent follow-up.
What if I cancel the subscription?
Conversation does not stop, it goes back to the free daily allowance. Stories, the lessons you listen to, music, lullabies and the timer stay exactly where they are. Resubscribe whenever you want, or never.
When will it ship?
The prototype works. The availability date goes to the waitlist as soon as we can hold it.
